In 2009, the decision to sponsor the First Annual Unity In Community 5K Run/1 Mile Walk was made. Instead of raising money to donate to national non-profits, we decided to provide assistance to non-profits in our own communities. By inviting area schools and churches to form teams and raise pledges, we allowed them to raise money to further their children’s programs. In addition, other participants had the opportunity to help the community groups or have their money donated to one of our Dancing For A Difference children’s charities (Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or Make A Wish). We were able to donate $2,800 in our first year to these charities.
Our charities for 2010 will be Autism Speaks, Juvenile Diabetes, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. |
